Anti-Hazing and Risk Management

ANTI-HAZING POSITION STATEMENT

Kappa Delta Chi Sorority does not encourage, condone or tolerate hazing in any form; we have a zero tolerance policy with regards to hazing. Hazing is illegal and is contrary to the fundamental values and principles of our sisterhood. Furthermore, we are proud to stand as one of the few Greek-letter organizations that can assert that we have experienced no litigation in regards to hazing in our 25 years of existence.

The definition of hazing that we abide by is:
Hazing is any action or situation which includes any mental or physical requirement, request or obligation placed upon any person which could cause discomfort, pain, fright, disgrace, injury, or which is personally degrading or which violates any Federal, State, local statutes or university policy.

Not all hazing activities are physical in nature. Hazing can include depriving members of sleep through late night, all-night or early morning meetings/activities; causing mental stress or shock; asking members to participate in unapproved quests, treasure hunts, scavenger hunts, or road trips; and asking members to perform demeaning or degrading tasks.

Violation of Kappa Delta Chi’s anti-hazing policies may result in the following consequences, applicable to individual members, chapters, and colonies:

    Suspension of privileges
    Expulsion from the organization
    Revoking of the chapter's charter
    College/university disciplinary action
    Civil and/or criminal penalties

Kappa Delta Chi holds the strong belief that education is the key to eliminating the detrimental practice of hazing. Each chapter is trained on annual policies on an annual basis prior to administering our national New Member Education program. All of our activities are designed to teach the duties and responsibilities that members of our organization have as sisters, as students at their respective institutions, and as residents of their communities.

RISK MANAGEMENT

Each chapter has a Risk Management Officer who receives annual training, which provides education on topics such as alcohol and drug abuse, hazing, sexual abuse, and harassment.

Kappa Delta Chi Sorority, Inc. believes that preventing, reducing, and eliminating risk within our sorority can be accomplished through the process of education. Educating our members is critical and ongoing. Risk management policies are in place not only to protect the organization, but more importantly, the well-being of our individual members.
