Ruby R. Alvarado Hernandez, MA, MNpS, MEd, EdD - Executive Director

Ruby Alvarado Hernandez has been dedicated to the success of Kappa Delta Chi Sorority Inc. since 1999.  As a member, initiated at the Zeta Chapter, Sam Houston State University, in 1996 she has held the national positions of Recording Secretary, Director of Membership and Alumnae Relations, Director of Expansion, National President/Executive Director, Kappa Delta Chi’s representative to the National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations (NALFO), Chair for Kappa Delta Chi’s Board of Directors and currently is the Executive Director of the Kappa Delta Chi Foundation.  She also has served leadership roles in her local Phoenix alumnae chapter and assists with various programs, trainings at the Lambda Chapter.  Ruby has also served as NALFO’s Director of Parliamentary Procedure and Chair.

Finally, Ruby works as the Dean of Students for K-12 grades at ASU Preparatory Academy in Phoenix.  Previous to this position she was the statewide coordinator for bullying prevention in the state of Arizona at Arizona State University.  She has trained over 50 schools in the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program and continues to be the statewide contact for the internationally known Olweus Bullying Prevention Program.  She was a member and vice president of the State of Arizona’s Charter School Board from 2007-2013. Ruby also served as a board member for Ballet Folklorico Quetzalli, a 501(c) 3 organization dedicated to teaching the community about the importance of Mexican culture through dance and music.  She spends a large amount of her time serving as her daughter’s Girl Scout Troop Leader and has volunteered with Girl Scouts for over six years now.  Her dedication to not only volunteering with nonprofit organizations, but also moving them forward with their mission has helped strengthen her skills to advancing the Kappa Delta Chi Foundation. 

 
 

Raquel Perez - Director of Stewardship

Raquel Perez is the Pre-College & Career Services Director at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Fort Worth.  She has over 20 years of non-profit experience including program management, program evaluation, budget oversight of $1.4 million in federal grants, staff development and strategic planning.

Raquel has been a member of the Epsilon Chapter for 21 years, joining in spring 1997. She is an active member of the Arlington Alumnae Chapter. She served the KDChi National Organization for 11 years from 2002-2013. She held various positions including Programming Chair/Officer, Communications Chair/Officer, Vice President of Public Affairs, Board of Directors Vice Chair of Finance and the Foundation’s Executive Director. 

Her Key accomplishments include creating and implementing the Marisa Merino Scholarship and Irene Montoya Scholarship Funds. She Oversaw the website redesign for Kappa Delta Chi in 2008 and Created the national newsletter - “The Emerald” in 2006. Received the 2006 National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations award for “Organizational Leadership” and has received various national awards for service to Kappa Delta Chi.

Raquel earned her Bachelor’s of Sociology in 1999 and a Master’s in Public Administration in 2009 from the University of Texas at Arlington. She resides in Fort Worth, TX. 

 

Verónica Leos Barrón - Director of Development

Verónica Leos Barrón is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist employed with Northwest Assistance Ministries (NAM), a non-profit organization whose mission is to strive to meet basic human needs through Neighbors Helping Neighbors. NAM offers therapeutic services to underrepresented population thereby reaching consumers who would not otherwise have access to these types of services due to cost or location. Her calling is to serve others and thus has over 20 years of non-profit experience including program development, educational programming in schools and non-profit agencies, professional development, training and employee and staff wellness.

Verónica has been a proud member of Kappa Delta Chi for 24 years since her initiation into the Zeta Class of the Sam Houston State University Zeta Chapter in the Fall of 1995. She has held many leadership roles throughout her chapter and the National Organization since her initiation including New Member Educator, President, Programming Chair and Vice President of Undergraduate Affairs which was a combination of Standards and National New Member Education. Most recently she was the Vice Chair of the Board of Directors before her transition into the Foundation where she is the Director of Development.

Verónica is from San Antonio, TX but currently resides in Tomball, TX with her most cherished job as wife to Carlos and mommy to son, Leo. 

 

Yvonne Hernandez Friedman - Director of Finance

Dr. Yvonne has a Ph.D in education from Claemont Graduate University and M.Ed. & BA from Arizona State University.  She serves as the Associate Director of Residential Success & Community Development at UC San Diego and has been living/working in the San Diego area for 14 years.  Dr. Y’s experience spans over student housing, conduct, first year experience, student activities and fraternity/sorority life. She’s been working in student affairs over the span of 17 years.  Dr. Y has been a proud sister of Kappa Delta Chi Sorority since fall 1995 and was initiated at the Delta Chapter, but transferred and made her home at the Lambda Chapter. She enjoys spending time outdoors and at museums with her husband, Todd and son, Mason.
