Lubbock, TX - Kappa Delta Chi Sorority Inc. has decided, as a result of Arizona's recent passage of SB 1070 and HB 2281, to forego national or regional events in Arizona due to the organization's concern for the safety and well being of its membership.

In addition, because of the recent decision of the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors
to move forward with their Annual Meeting in Phoenix, Kappa Delta Chi has agreed to not send representation to this event.  Again, Kappa Delta Chi is concerned with the impact that these two bills will have including racial profiling and ultimately fostering an anti-immigrant sentiment among the public.

Kappa Delta Chi applauds the National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations (NALFO) for taking a strong stance regarding this legislation, including relocating their fall meeting.  Kappa Delta Chi also appreciates the positions of many organizations such as ACPA and a number of fraternal organizations who have released statements regarding the potential negative impacts of these two legislative bills and who will also refrain from hosting meetings/conferences in the state of Arizona.

Any additional questions regarding this statement should be referred to Ruby Alvarado Hernandez, Chair of the Board of Directors at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Bronze and beautiful in Miami Beach

June 3, 4:11 PM · Bianca Felice - Miami Beach Beauty Examiner

As the heat index in Miami Beach starts to rise, more people search for a tanning solution to their winter skin.  Becoming bronze is essential, but must be done with respect to the sun,  a healthy tan can be achieved but preventative measures must be put into place or a fake bake can take its place.  There are many choices when it comes to achieving the perfect glow, it can be done naturally or produced by spray tans, lotions, or make-up applications.

The local hero to the spray tanning society in Miami Beach is Fabiola Trujillo, Owner of Sobe Tan.  This airbrush artist has crafted her skills and delivers constant results.  Shaving and exfoliation must be done prior to any application.

There are many lotions on the market that claim to deepen the shade of the skin and can be done as a daily ritual.  The most important thing to remember is exfoliation prior to application and hydration during and after.  Skin cells are constantly sloughing off and discoloration is more prone to the feet, elbows and knees.  Shimmers and make-up bronzers are sexy and can be an added benefit to enhance your tan.

A tan from a can is another great option.  According to The Skin Cancer Foundation, the popularity of self- tanning products is surging.  Consumers are more aware of UV damage and topical skin care solutions.

If your desire is to be sun kissed by nature, follow these simple guidelines:

  • Keep sun exposure, without UV protection, up to 30 minutes per day.  The body needs to be exposed to the full spectrum of light, but not for long periods of time.  Vitamin D is produced and essential in maintaining vitality.
  • Apply at least an SPF 15 and reapply often if swimming, sweating or over exposure to the sun.
  • After being outdoors apply pure aloe vera from a plant source, this amazing botanical heals and restores.
  • Hydrate the skin internally with water and externally with lipids and moisturizers.
