In the Spring of 2009, there was a young student at the University of North Texas who wished to bring Kappa Delta Chi onto campus. She felt that this wonderful sorority would provide the leadership and service opportunities that her fellow academically-oriented Latinas desired.
She and a few other friends started the student organization called "Ladies Empowering a Dream" or "LEAD", as they were better known as. Together, they held fundraisers for the Denton Arthritis Walk and volunteered for the Denton Humane Society in hopes of meeting the requirements to start the sorority.
After recruiting many more dedicated women, the "Leadies," as they were affectionately called, joined the Multicultural Greek Council as a prospective colony of Kappa Delta Chi Sorority Inc. The Leadies made friends with several organizations and teamed up for various events and mixers. Soon after meeting the national requirements for chartering, the girls met with the Kappa Delta Chi National Expansion Chair and National Recruitment Officers in Dallas, TX to begin their journey to become sisters.
On October 23rd 2010, the charter members became sisters of Kappa Delta Chi Sorority, Inc. The charter members made up the entirety of the colony at the University of North Texas. They included: Cirzy Gonzalez, Yvette Andablo, Selene Casco, Mayra Aguilar, Alyssa Galvan, Serenity Nguyen, Maureen Huaringa, Katherine Fillmore, Mayra Diaz, Lizette Peña, and Miriam Morales.
The following semester they had great success in the Greek community, winning five coveted awards at the Greek Awards. These included: MGC Spirit Award, MGC Involvement Cup, Chapter Progress of the Year Award, MGC Advisor of the Year Award, and MGC Greek Woman of the Year Award to Cirzy Gonzalez.
Later that Spring, the colony brought in an Alpha Class and soon after received Chapter Status. On August 21st 2011, they became known as the
Oh So Strong, Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Kappa Delta Chi.
