KDChi Supports Community service emphasis in "Cesar Chavez" Movie

For Immediate Release:

LUBBOCK, Texas - Kappa Delta Chi Sorority Inc. is proud to support the depiction of our sister's, Dolores Huerta, instrumental role to the founding of the United Farm Workers Association in the upcoming film "Cesar Chavez".

The film was directed by actor Diego Luna (star of "Y Tu Mama Tambien") and co-stars Rosario Dawson as Dolores Huerta, Michael Peña as Cesar Chavez and America Ferrera as Helen Chavez and is set for release in theaters across the nation on March 28, 2014.

As a teacher in the 60s Huerta saw the daily struggles of those within her community. Motivated to take action Huerta helped found two organizations aiming to serve the local community. When Huerta met Cesar Chavez in 1962 the two embarked on a journey that sparked a movement to serve the underrepresented and marginalized around them.

Huerta shares what she hopes audiences take away from the film: "Organizing and getting involved in our community is the message I hope people learn from the Cesar Chavez movie, the goal is to impact policy and decisions with our people power.  This is the same Si Se Puede spirit I share with my sorority sisters of Kappa Delta Chi Sorority Inc. as we serve and organize in our communities across the nation; it's a true way to honor our work. Si Se Puede!"

KDChi, founded 25 years after the United Farm Workers Association, offers its members a network in which to develop as leaders and give back to their local communities. Members are encouraged to find a need and work together to fill that void.
