KDChi's 22nd Natl Conference a Success!

National Conference draws sisters from across the nation to learn from one another and to celebrate sisterhood

For Immediate Release:

LUBBOCK, TX - Kappa Delta Chi's National Leadership Conference Committee is deserving of a restful break after successfully producing the 22nd annual KDChi National Leadership Conference.

On Friday, June 21 KDChi sisters from all over the nation flew, drove or hopped the light rail into Seattle, Washington for the annual event where almost 200 sisters learned about running their chapters more effectively, networking, financial literacy, personal and professional development opportunities and engaged one another in roundtable discussions focused on how to better serve their communities.

Jennifer Vazquez

The leadership conference kicked off on a somber note when Jennifer Leigh Vasquez, 24, of KDChi's Kappa Chapter at Northern Arizona University joined five other sisters and was inducted into Kappa Delta Chi's Omega chapter. Vazquez passed away on April 3 this year after bravely battling brain cancer. She was in our thoughts throughout the weekend.

We then turned to some news of growing our sisterhood across the miles and through cheers and a few tears, the national organization officially awarded their Greek letter order to three new Chapters of KDChi. These young women from these three chapters have hit the ground running on their respective campuses and have already made a name for themselves. We are so proud of the work they have done so far and without a doubt they have proven themselves to be strong additions to their University and surrounding communities. We welcome the following three chapters with open arms:

Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY                               KDChi Beta Beta Chapter

Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, TX     KDChi Beta Gamma Chapter

Western Oregon University in Monmouth, OR               KDChi Beta Delta Chapter

The conference continued with days filled with leadership opportunities produced to accommodate both undergraduates and alumnae. After bonding over Broadway skits and Seattle tours, the sisterhood was honored to have two of our very own alumni sisters speak to us about their life journeys. KDChi sisters, Dr. Marisa Herrera and Dr. Lisa Ramirez shared their life journeys with us. Ramirez said in a couple of years she's leading her own daughter and legacy Kaitlyn to become part of KDChi and is faithful that it's a decision she'll be proud of.

The Emerald Gala concluded with KDChi's ESPY awards that ranged from individual awards of high academic achievement to the coveted Penny the Penguin Award for Best Chapter Overall of year went to KDChi's Alpha Phi Chapter at California State University-Monterey Bay. All awards were live tweeted (@KDChi) and shared with those sisters who couldn't join us but were with us in spirit.

The final day of conference wrapped with closing ceremonies transitioning in the newly elected National Officers and some exciting news that next year's Leadership Conference would be returning back to the Lone Star State, so mark your calendars for a visit to El Paso, Texas from June 20-22nd 2014. #KDXElPaso2014
