For Immediate Release:

(New York City, NY) Kappa Delta Chi Sorority Inc. is proud to announce that Latina Magazine has named National President Mary Gonzalez as a Next Generation Latina Leader.

A total of 10 women were chosen from various professional backgrounds from across the nation and all of them have inspiring stories of strength, philanthropy and courage to be honored and featured in the upcoming December issue. According to Latina Magazine, the Next Generation Latina is a woman who embraces her Latina roots while giving back to her community in a noteworthy way.  She's a role model, a mentor, a leader, a friend, sister, boss, teacher, or somebody making a difference in the community.

"It is truly an honor to be nominated and selected as one of Latina Magazine's Next Generation Latina Leaders, this recognition sheds light on some of the important issues I have been working on like Latino voter engagement, education and poverty," Gonzalez shared. She continued, "This award means a lot to me because it symbolizes the future of Latina leadership, with women from all over the country, from different backgrounds, in different industries making a difference in society, it is a tapestry of what Latina leadership looks like. It is humbling to learn about the other women who were selected and to know that I get to stand with them as a Latina who's making a difference."

Here's the writeup on Latina Magazine's website:

"Mary Gonzalez, El Paso, Texas

When El Paso, Texas needed a leader, Mary Gonzalez answered the call. This third-year PhD student-National President of the Latina-founded community service sorority Kappa Delta Chi-broke new ground when she won her seat for Texas State Representative: she is the first woman to ever represent her district, and next Legislative session she will be the youngest Representative. Mentor to 10 younger siblings, Mary says her "multi-tasked family lifestyle" helped shape her success."

Gonzalez and her fellow peers will be celebrated at a breakfast to be held on Monday, November 12th at the Affinia Hotel in New York City and will receive an all expenses paid trip for them and a guest as well as a $500 Mastercard gift card. Playwright Quiara Alegría Hudes will be the keynote speaker at the breakfast.  Mary will be taking her mom along as her guest as she's never traveled to New York before and she is so grateful for having her support over the years. "I am fortunate that to receive the award and that I'll be able to travel with my mother with me to NY. I know that I am who I am because of the support, love and mentorship of my family and friends."

KDChi is so proud to celebrate our National President being listed as a community servant of change, we also salute all of the winners of the Next Generation Latina contest. Thank you for what you do, who you've become and for all that you will continue to achieve. We support your efforts.
