Kappa Delta Chi Sorority Inc. Wins the NCLR Alma Awards Competition

NCLR: KDChi's 4,705 Individual Votes "knocked the competition out of the park"

For Immediate Release:

(Lubbock, TX) Kappa Delta Chi Sorority Inc. is proud to have partnered up with the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) in honor of the 2012 Alma Awards, Latino Greek Competition. The grand prize won is that a national celebrity will appear at an upcoming KDChi national conference.

The winning e-mail came directly from the NCLR marketing team and it read as follows:

"I just received the voting totals and I'm happy to say, Congratulations! Kappa Delta Chi Sorority, Inc. has won a celebrity appearance at an upcoming national conference. Your organization had 4,705 votes in total and you guys knocked the competition out of the park!" NCLR also tweeted and shared the news of the win on their facebook page as well.

The competition was held over a month long period between August and September and included more than 15 Latino Fraternities and Sororities from across the country. In close second and third and deserving of applause was Alpha Pi Sigma Sorority and Omega Delta Phi Fraternity. The objective of the competition was to see who could recruit the most votes towards choosing the winners of the Alma Awards. The Awards were created to honor outstanding Latino artistic achievements in television, film, and music, while promoting fair, accurate, and representative portrayals of Latinos in the entertainment industry.

Curious as to who the celebrity will be? So are we! Those details are being negotiated between NCLR and KDChi's National Administrative Council and information will be available at a later date.

The sisters of Kappa Delta Chi extend a huge thank you to NCLR for hosting the contest and to all who participated. While we are excited about the win, we encourage everyone to tune in with us to watch who takes home the statuettes at the NCLR ALMA Awards, which will air Friday September 21 on NBC at 8/7cst. This is the 12th annual program that has been honoring outstanding Latino artistic achievements in television, film, and music since 1995. The show represents an integral part of NCLR's mission to create greater opportunities for Latinos in the United States. As NCLR President Janet Murguía has said, the ALMA Awards demonstrates how inclusion strengthens the entertainment industry and diversity strengthens our country by promoting fair, accurate, and representative portrayals of Latinos.
