KDChi Phi Chapter Alumna Awarded Doctoral Psychology Award

Kappa Delta Chi Sorority Inc. is proud to announce that Phi Chapter Alumna Aracely Arellano Lopez was selected out of 126 doctoral psychology student applicants to be awarded the CAPIC/MHSA Psychology Intern Stipend in 2012. She will receive MHSA Full-Time internship stipends totaling $20,772 to encourage pre-doctoral and post-doctoral service in public mental health settings.

The stipend program is funded by the California Mental Health Services Act (MHSA, or Prop 63) and awards stipends to doctoral psychology students doing internships in publicly supported mental health agencies in California. While pursuing a higher education Aracely, who goes by Chely, is also working working on her own personal health and loves outdoor activities such as hiking, white water rafting and spending time becoming one with nature. While juggling school and trying to achieve balance in life, she shares the following, "I can't remember being in a better place personally and professionally. Things are truly coming together and I feel emotionally and physically healthier." She emphasizes that self care is a priority in her life and encourages others to seek out the same sort of balance.

Lopez attended Stephen F. Austin University where she was a member of KDChi's Phi Chapter and she received a Bachelor's of Psychology and Spanish. She then went on to achieve a masters in Forensic Psychology and is pursuing her PhD in Psychology. She lives in Santa Monica, California.
