President of AG Chapter
(California State Univ-Dominguez Hills)
Hometown: Lawndale, CA
Major: Health Science with a concentration in community health and a minor in Biology
Why did you join KDChi: Because of what the organization stood for and the lifelong friendship and sisterhood! As soon as I walked in the door for an informational, I felt the warmth and felt welcomed. I just clicked with everyone and fell in love! 1987... KDChi Till I DIE!!
Current occupation: I work at Victoria's Secret and am currently the Beauty Specialist. I manage my beauty team, peer coach and report to the store manager.
Most valuable KDChi lesson? As KDChipresident, I'm a better leader for my chapter and in the professional world. Just like I report to my store manager I report to KDChi Nationals. I've learned to be open-minded, patient with others and to listen to other viewpoints.
Best college memory: When I became a KDChi. I cried of happiness at pinning. Having those letters over my heart makes me so proud to be part of this sisterhood.
Best service experience: Volunteering at a homeless shelter. We prepared food, cooked, and cleaned and a woman with her child in arms came up to me and thanked me for my time in preparing her meal. She said it was the only meal her and her baby had eaten all week.
How KDChi changed her life: I'm a better woman. I used to be shy and thought a sorority was synonymous with a girls gone wild commercial. As soon as I attended an informational, my whole prospective changed and I thought "wow this is a professional group of women who really want to impact the university and the surrounding communities." I learned everything happen for a reason and you are not always going to have control of a situation. You need to learn how to let go and look at the positive and take the lead in leading the future of an organization. I absolutely love what this organization stands for. I talk about KDChi all the time to my family, friends and co-workers. I believe that everyone that knows me knows about KDChi. It is to the point were friends and family just buy me things if it is KDChi related such as penguins or pink and maroon stuff. I even have my parents brag to their friends on all the service events I have been a part of.
What is something no one knows about you: I have this pink Barbie power wheel corvette I received for my 5th birth day. Till this day I still have it in my garage. I told myself I would buy a real one when I grew up.
If she won the lottery, she would buy: A house for my mom, a pink corvette with KDChi tags and I would donate to charities that are not nationally known.
Any life news to share: I'll be the first in my family to graduate college this May and received an award for my 5yr contribution to limited brands at work.
On her bucket list: I would like to apply for the LA county Health Department. Once I begin work I would like to go back to school to get a Masters in Public Health. I would then like to work for the CDC or the FDA. I am a huge nerd at heart and I am proud of it! Maybe one day get married and start a family.
KDChi words of wisdom:
Some people ask me why are you always doing "KDChi stuff?" I say because it is my second family and I would do anything for those girls. Some people say "wow you do so much, do they pay you?" I said of course not! I receive what I put in, so if I put in hard work, I feel the outcome would be worth it. Some may not understand why we wake up so early to do volunteer work; I said "it is an experience you cannot explain unless you experience it yourself. Once you see you can make a difference in someone's life, trust me you will not want to stop".
Favorite motivational quote: "Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today" - James Dean Not knowing what career I wanted to take on. I finally realized I wanted to go into Public Health.
